Project 365 - Day 2
WHAT: Project 365 (2009), Random   |   WHEN: January 2, 2009
Day dos... still going strong

2 reasons why I took this photo. First, I don't know why, but I've always found something cool about these dumb suit cases (although I'm not sure why the handle on the middle one is pointed up). I think it's the whole nostalgia thing. Secondly, this is a spare bedroom which I've been staying in since I bought the house, and will continue to stay in until after the wedding. I love how the natural light spills in through the blinds early in the morning, and every day I wake up and use this view as my weather gauge. Nice, warm &bright light (like today)? Good weather. Dim and cold light? Ugly weather... stay in bed a little longer.

I'll miss this view.

New Year, New Endeavor - Project 365
WHAT: Personal, Project 365 (2009)   |   WHEN: January 1, 2009
I'm not calling this a New Year's resolution, because doing so inevitably means I'll have shoved it in the box of broken dreams by February with the other annual lofty resolutions like working out, losing 15 lbs, organizing/backing up all my personal photos, getting an oil change... the usual suspects.

Not too long ago I read about Project 365 where the challenge is to take 1 photo a day for a year to document your life, and since I'm wanting to be a more consistent blogger (hmmm... a New Year's resolution?), I thought this was the perfect fit. And since I'm lazy and have a tendency to be fantastic at starting projects and less than stellar at finishing them, I'm counting on you all to be accountability partners. Thanks for volunteering.

The goal is to take one image each day of 1) something I did, 2) someone I met or hung out with, 3) something that caught my eye or made me smile, 4) my travels, or 5) anything about my life that draws me to capture it with a camera. I'm excited to create this visual history of my life for 2009 that I'll be able to look back on and know what was going on in my life, how I was feeling, how much my hairline has receded...

The purpose is not for all of these images to be stellar, although I have no doubt my creativity and my technical skills will be challenged and expanded because of this exercise, but instead just to capture something of the day. Consistency is key here, so I'm imagining a fair amount of iPhone camera images making up some of the body of this work.

Also, I'm not ambitious enough to think that I'm going to actually post one image each day; that would be fantastic, but I would laugh at myself if I committed to doing that. What I am committing myself to do, though, is post all the images... sometimes it will be daily, sometimes every couple days, and probably many times I'll post a weekly summary of images from each day of the previous week.

I challenge others to do this as well and create a visual history for yourself. You'll be so thankful you did (this coming from a guy who's only on day 1). Is anybody still reading this?... okay enough babbling already. On to the good stuff.

I thought a self-portrait of sorts was appropriate to start off the year. This may not be a great image, but I think it's symbolic as it captures me doing something I love to do - get lost in my own little visual world with my camera capturing everyday things. I love nostalgic things, so when Kylie and I were driving down the road and I saw these hay roll thingies, we had to pull over. This wasn't the image I was after with the uHaul facility providing a majestic backdrop, but when I noticed my shadow on the hay out of the corner of my eye while I was taking another photo, well... hereyago.
