[Not So] Extreme Home Makeover
WHAT: Personal   |   WHEN: January 14, 2009
Things are changin' around here. Kylie's soon-to-be work/workout/craft room and the master bedroom and bath are finally getting a little facelift. They've been in the project queue since I moved in back in August, but - as with many things I've learned since - not everything seems to get done as soon as I think it will.

Things are finally underway, though. I decided to roll up my sleeves and make something happen, so I whipped out my iPhone and called some painters. If you want something done right, call someone that knows what they're doing, right? What, you think I'm gonna take all that leopard safari wallpaper down in the master bathroom? Do you think for a second I have a clue or the patience to retexture walls. If so, you're tragically misinformed. I have never been accused of being "handy". Even Bob Villa wouldn't bother sending me junk mail.

Here's a few images of some random textures and cool lighting I noticed around the rooms when walking through after the painters left for the day.

I. Hate. Crow's feet texture. Especially when it's covered with shiny paint. I'm ready for this to be gone in the master bedroom.

Who needs to add texture to photos when you've got windows that look like these? Umm... guess I should open the blinds more often to see when these need cleaning. Then again, ignorance is bliss.

Finally, I really liked the feel of the light coming the bedroom window right before the sun went down.

Project 365 - Day 14
WHAT: Portraits, Project 365 (2009)   |   WHEN: January 14, 2009
Day 14 - Good times.

One of the reasons I'm so passionate about photography is because I've truly had some of the best clients. Ever. Liking the people you work with makes a HUGE difference in how enjoyable the work you do is. If you don't mesh with or - worse yet - like your co-workers, it's only a matter of time before a dream job becomes a drain or even a nightmare. I've been pretty fortunate to have worked with some fantastic people for most of my life. Sure, there were a few people along the way I might've secretly wished would accidentally staple themselves in the eye from time to time, but for the most part I've been pretty blessed. Take Robin and Matt below, for example. Not only are they good at what they do, these guys just make work a little more fun.

Project 365 - Day 13
WHAT: Project 365 (2009), Random   |   WHEN: January 13, 2009
Day 13. Some might call this an unlucky day. Kylie and I beg to differ.

We get giddy every time we drive by the front of the house when coming home from somewhere and see a box or two of wedding bliss waiting for us by the door. Tonight was one of those times. We joked this evening that we're gonna go through post-matrimonial depression when we get back from the honeymoon and the FedEx guy no longer stops by with a daily shot of "ooh, guess what's in the box?" It's shallow, we know.

In all seriousness, to all our friends and family that have sent gifts... we're truly grateful for your love and support, and we can't thank you enough.

And yes, I know... it's time for the Christmas-flavored wreath to come down.

Of all the photos I have of Kylie, this one is still probably my favorite.
